Happy Tuesday! Have you recovered from that crazy Superbowl?! Neither Dylan’s nor my team were in the Superbowl this year so we didn’t really have any stake in the game, but as a football fan in general that turned out to be one incredible game.
Once upon a time, many years ago, I stumbled across a food blog from a woman named Chrissy Teigen. Charmed by her witty and sarcastic sense of humor, drawn in by her refreshingly honest writing, and drooling at the food she was creating, I was smitten.
Have you ever had a dish that you knew was probably easy, but for some reason you were intimated to make it? The first dish that comes to my mind that intimidates me is Shepherd’s Pie. Random fact, I’ve never actually even had shepherd’s pie. My parents never made it when I was growing up, it’s not something you can commonly order from a restaurant menu, and when I look at recipe for one I just get overwhelmed. The second dish? Chicken Pot Pie.
Show of hands for those of you that thinking about salads make you think about summer?! My hand definitely would have went straight up in the air – until recently that is. I always thought of a fresh salad with a glass of crisp white wine enjoyed on a patio with the sun shining. In this 20 degree winter weather I think about mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and other various calorie-heavy comfort foods.
You guys. 34 is officially here and I’m DETERMINED to make this my year! I’ve mentioned before how I felt all over the page turning 33, and even though the beginning of 2017 wasn’t the kindest to us, I just have the most positive mindset.

My first job out of college was in this small town about an hour away from where I lived. With a heavy Amish population, Kalona has amazing shops that are ran by wonderfully talented cooks, bakers, and homemade goods makers. During my almost five years of working in Kalona I developed a deep appreciation of the great businesses in this town, and one particular place that I frequented regularly was the Kalona Bakery; a bustling small shop with ran by a group of fiercely dedicated Amish women who would rise very early in the morning to make fresh baked goods that could be purchased every day.
Happy 2017! I’m FINALLY back with a new recipe and I shared my 2017 goals with you last Friday, but I didn’t really explain my mysterious disappearance over the last few weeks of the year (unless you followed my IG!). Okay okay, so “mysterious” is probably a bit of an embellishment. It’s making me sound way cooler than I am; as if I went on some exotic vacation or adventure, when I didn’t.
